The Love Down Under

I wish I could pinpoint what it is about artists and designers from Down Under that intrigues me. Maybes its the fact that they celebrate youth, color, and beauty without ever taking themselves too seriously. Forward thinking Australian denim brand, Ksubi commissioned artist and filmmaker, Daniel Askill to create a video for their Kolors range launched earlier this month. Daniel is known as one of the most talented fashion film directors in the world working with the Australian based Collider, a collective of some pretty bad ass directors. Daniel teams up with his brothers, Lorin Askill and designer, Jordan Askill on projects like 'There's No Place Like Home'. Jordan, who developed his own RTW label while designing at Ksubi, "has researched and developed his own high concept yet beautifully wearable jewellery collection, taking references from the nostalgia of youth, fine jewellery methods of the past, and the world around us together combining to reveal something very honest, modern and completely new. " Jordan takes this same approach to the innovative modern sculptures he also creates. Their 'There's No Place Like Home' film conjures up my own childhood obsession with horses, reminding me that farm kid in me won't ever die.
