The duo recently showed their SS'13 line at Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week in New Dehli. The line entitled 'Zip' was inspired by Barnett Newman, an American artist regarded as abstract expressionist artist. Interestingly Barnett of Jewish immigrant roots, began his career in the New York City garment industry working in his father's clothing manufacturing business as a young boy. He went on to be a teacher, writer, poet, and eventually an artist. He became known for his areas of color separated by thin vertical lines that he called "zips". The zips define the spatial structure of the painting, while simultaneously dividing and uniting the composition. Perhaps his beginnings in garment industry influenced this perception of the structures. These became a recurring feature in his most well known works during the 1950s. Like so many artist, it wasn't until after his death that he was appreciated and his influence on young artist is still evident today.
